Our spotlight this month is on the team at St Austell Surgical Hub (SASH). Back
The Hub, which has been open for just 19 months and is run in partnership with Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, is one of two standalone day surgery units located 16 miles from the acute site. It is helping more patients receive treatment closer to home while reducing waiting times across Cornwall.
Celebrating hub accreditation
The Hub team are very proud of their recent hub accreditation. Anneka Southworth, Surgery Group Manager, explained what this means for patients and staff:
“It’s great to receive this accreditation; it reflects the high-quality care and passion our teams deliver every day. For our patients, this means shorter waits and the opportunity to have their treatment closer to home in a welcoming environment.
“For our staff, being recognised nationally validates the hard work of the clinical and operational teams, strengthening pride, cohesion and retention. This Accreditation signals that the St Austell Surgical Hub is not only delivering high quality elective care today but is also equipped to expand our capacity, adopt new best practices and continue to reduce waiting times across Cornwall.”
Recognising individual achievements
Anneka is also proud to share news of some individual achievements within the team that showcase the great teamwork at SASH.
Tom is a current finalist for Team Member of the Year, while theatre assistants Lola and Mira, have been accepted to undertake their OPD training.
Tom says he forms part of a hard-working team and that without their support and joint effort he would not have been nominated.
Lola and Mira were both new to theatres and have developed such skill with the support of the education link in the unit and sign-off packs that they are now comfortably progressing to a registered training pathway. This is part of their ‘grow your own’ workforce plan.
Thank you to SASH for sharing their story and congratulations to Tom, Lola and Mira on their achievements.
Could your unit be our next DSU Spotlight?
If your team would like to be featured in a future DSU Spotlight, we'd love to hear from you. It's an opportunity to share your experiences, introduce your team and connect with colleagues across the day surgery community.
